Founded in 1900, SAHM Glasveredelung is a long-established specialist in drinking glass decoration and one of Germany’s hidden champions in the glass finishing industry. With multiple production sites across Europe and the United States, the company continues to modernize its manufacturing processes while maintaining high-quality craftsmanship.
To support its first step into automation, SAHM collaborated with MS Electronics and implemented a DOBOT CR10A collaborative robot solution for glass handling applications. The project successfully improved handling efficiency while creating a scalable foundation for future automation initiatives.
Despite the company’s strong manufacturing heritage, many processes in drinking glass decoration still relied heavily on manual operations. SAHM aimed to begin introducing automation technology into its production environment while ensuring flexibility and stable cycle times.
Initially, the project was planned with another cobot manufacturer. However, during the implementation phase, it became clear that a second robot would be required to meet the production requirements and cycle time targets.
The application also demanded precise task separation:
This created the need for a reliable, flexible, and easily integrable automation solution capable of supporting delicate glass decoration workflows.
Leveraging its expertise in glass handling applications, MS Electronics partnered with DOBOT to redesign the automation setup using two collaborative robots.
Thanks to the long-term cooperation between MS Electronics and DOBOT, the team was able to quickly adapt the project architecture and optimize the handling process:
This dual-cobot setup enabled the customer to successfully achieve the required production cycle time while maintaining process stability.
Following a successful Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) at MS Electronics’ facility in Nistertal, the complete system was rapidly deployed and integrated at SAHM’s production site in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. The final Site Acceptance Test (SAT) and commissioning were completed within just a few days.
The project also served as an important starting point for SAHM’s broader automation strategy, allowing the company to gain valuable operational experience for future automation opportunities across additional manual processes.
By implementing DOBOT CRA Series, SAHM Glasveredelung successfully completed its first automation project in drinking glass decoration production.
The solution demonstrated how flexible cobot automation can help traditional manufacturing companies modernize operations while maintaining production quality and efficiency. With the successful deployment now in operation, SAHM has established a practical automation foundation for future expansion into additional handling and decoration processes.
Together with MS Electronics, DOBOT helped deliver a scalable, efficient, and user-friendly automation solution tailored to the specific needs of the glass finishing industry.
Take part in automation transformation. Let’s work together towards a more efficient tomorrow.
